Differences Summary

  • Connectivity. The Razer BlackShark V2 is wired using a non-detachable 3.5 mm cable with a USB dongle. The BlackShark V2 Pro 2023 is wireless only and has both Bluetooth and a 2.4 GHz wireless USB dongle.

  • Microphone. The BlackShark V2 Pro 2023 has a far clearer mic with more natural tonality.

  • Weight. The BlackShark V2 weighs 262 grams and the BlackShark V2 Pro 2023 is 320g. The latter also has slightly thicker adjustment forks that clamp in slighty more and contribute to its weight.

  • Software features. The BlackShark V2 Pro 2023 has multiple EQ presets built-in and they are saved to the device itself. Also, you can make your own custom EQ that saves to it as well.

The BlackShark V2 Pro 2023 has a SmartSmart button (right) that toggles between Bluetooth and the 2.4 GHz wireless dongle.

Microphone Demonstration

The BlackShark V2 Pro 2023 has the best gaming headset microphone that I’ve used so far. It beats out even the Corsair HS80 and HyperX Cloud III microphones. It can’t completely replace the full-bodied frequency response of a proper standalone mic, but for a gaming headset it’s the best you can get.

Software Features

Both headsets have access to Razer Synapse, but there are a couple key differences. The BlackShark V2 requires Synapse to be open and active to benefit from any headphone EQ and filter changes. The BlackShark V2 Pro 2023 has multiple presets already dialed into the headset itself.

You can make your own custom EQ in Synapse and save it to the headset so you can use it (and the other presets) on console or even your phone via Bluetooth.

The mic EQ only works on PC.

Verdict

The BlackShark V2 Pro 2023 is excellent for people who like the comfort and headphone audio of the BlackShark V2, but want a wireless headset with a much better mic. If you’re on a budget, the BlackShark V2 is still a decent pick.
