What’s in the Box

Tripod not included.

Privacy cover is pretty slanted… I tried it.

The NexiGo N930AF comes with:

- a webcam
- two privacy covers
- instruction manual (here’s the PDF from Nexigo’s website)
- thank you card 🙂

The monitor clip with tripod thread at the bottom is non-detachable. The wire is also non-detachable and is 76 inches in length which allows you to move your webcam farther away from your computer. For reference, the Logitech C920 only has a 60 inch cable.

The build is sturdy and the webcam can be tilted up and down and twisted left to right. The privacy covers use super sticky tape that you put right onto the front of the device. Kinda cool, except if you put it on a little slanted, you have to rip the whole thing off and it won’t go back on so you have to use your second one.

Price

I bought the NexiGo N930AF AutoFocus FHD Webcam (Amazon) for $55. This is impressive considering at the time of its launch, many of the other popular webcams have been being sold at inflated prices.

Specifications

- 1080p, 30 FPS
- USB 2.0 cable but functions with USB 3.0.
- 65 degree field of view.
- listed as having autofocus but we’ll get to that…

Image Quality

I’ll be demonstrating stills from the following scenarios:

- night time with room lighting
- night time with studio lighting
- day time with daylight only
- day time with studio lighting

I’ll post in the captions whether I used automatic or manual settings.

Night time with room lighting (manual)

Day time with daylight only (automatic)

Night time with studio lights (manual)

Day time with studio lighting (manual)

The image quality overall is just passable. It’s not very sharp and there’s a large amount of grain in all but the brightest lighting conditions. Color accuracy isn’t great either. Browns are bit too yellow, and everything is just too dark overall. The colors aren’t overly distracting at least.

One of this webcam’s most obvious weaknesses is proper exposure. The NexiGo N930AF just can’t quite get the background to one uniform color as it should be. Even with backlights set up to even out the light, the NexiGo picks one spot on the wall and causes a bloom lighting effect where that one spot is like a sun, but everything radiating from that spot gets darker.

This webcam is useable for video conferencing like Zoom, but I wouldn’t try to start a YouTube or Twitch career with this as a main device.

The lights I used for these shots are the Elgato Ring Light, LimoStudio LMS103, and 2 Elgato Key Light Air as back lights (my reviews).

Manual Settings

I am very pleased with the manual settings made available by the NexiGo. As it states in the manual, you can access these settings in OBS (Open Broadcaster Software Studio). The exposure settings are great, and so is the ability to change the white balance.

The rare gamma option is available for adjustment and doesn’t quite function like gain - raising it gives a bit of a fake white, but it can still help out a bit in a pinch. Keep this as low as possible just like you would for gain. Great job, NexiGo.

Autofocus

The most ironic part about this webcam is the fact that the autofocus straight up didn’t work at all. lol?

The manual focus worked, so the device is still functional. But no Autofocus on the “NexiGo AutoFocus 1080P FHD Webcam”? You hate to see it.

NexiGo pls.

Audio

The audio on this device is quite tinny and it picks up an insane amount of background noise. The fan from my computer is amplified quite a bit. Here’s an audio sample below. This isn’t a real ding against the webcam though; webcams just have bad microphones.

Verdict

The NexiGo N930AF has average to below average performance across the board. Sharpness and color accuracy, are just barely okay and the autofocus on my device didn’t work at all. The physical design is pretty good, however.

I would not recommend this as a first or second option, but if you can’t find any Logitech C920 in stock for around $50, then this is probably your best bet for a budget webcam. If you want to level up your video quality by more than this device can provide, I’ve compared some of the top webcams on the market in a deep dive article.
