What’s Different
The HyperX Cloud Stinger 2 is mostly a redesign of the original Cloud Stinger. There are a few surface level differences:
The Stinger 2 comes with a wind screen for the mic.
The Stinger 2 comes with a 24-month subscription to DTS Headphone:X. It’s a virtual surround sound effect that you can apply on PC.
The original Stinger has a small amount of metal on the headband. The Stinger 2 is all plastic, but it has numbered labeling on the adjustment brackets.
The Stinger 2’s soundstage is slightly wider and the original Stinger’s upper midrange frequencies are more pronounced..
What’s the Same
Both connect using a detachable 3.5 mm cable and include a splitter in the box.
Both devices are top notch in comfort with pleather ear cushions and headband padding.
Both mics are flip up to mute. Neither mic is detachable.
Both mics sound about the same, and they have decent background noise rejection.
The Stinger has a volume slider on the right earcup and the Stinger 2 has a volume wheel in the same location.
Verdict
The Stinger 2 is mostly just a refresh of the original Stinger. It’s not necessarily better, but I’d choose it over the original Stinger if given the choice because its warmer sound signature.
Ultimately, I would skip both Stingers and opt for the HyperX Cloud Core instead. It beats out both of these in sound and is just as comfortable. It also has an aluminum frame to aid with durability.
