How to add a Webcam to OBS Studio

Step 1: Plug your webcam into your computer.

Step 2: Create a scene.

A webcam must be added as a source in a scene. If you already have a scene made, then you can skip this step. If not, then move your mouse down to the bottom left and click the plus sign.

Name the new scene whatever you like.

Step 3. Add a video capture device as a source.

To the right of the scenes tab is a sources tab. Move your mouse over to that and then down to the plus sign underneath it. Click that and then click “Video Capture Device”.

If you’ve already used this webcam before in OBS, you can click “Add Existing”. Otherwise click “Create new”. Name the source whatever you want, but it’s easiest to name it the same as your webcam. Ensure that “Make source visible” is checked.

Click OK.

Step 4. Select your webcam from the device drop-down menu.

Webcam added!

If your webcam doesn’t show an image when you click it, then make sure it is not in use with any other program at the same time. Also make sure that it is not already in use in another OBS scene (or the same scene) under a different name.
